West Pont Des Mouton Roadway Widening

Location: Lafayette Parish
Date Completed: 2007

The Huval & Associates engineering design team was the responsible charge for this project, performing design services on an existing 1.5 mile urban roadway.  The project scope was to upgrade a two-lane flexible pavement road to a four-lane divided Portland cement concrete urban roadway.

We began by performing a line and grade study after which the alignment was finalized. In the next step we performed a full topographic survey of the job site.  All right-of-way maps were developed in-house.

Next, we designed the roadway and its bridge structures, consisting of two triple box culverts and a three span concrete slab bridge.  Included in the project was the redesign of the bridge and a realignment of the stream crossing.  We also extended the box culverts under the widened section.

The Huval team developed all hydraulic calculations and designed all hydraulic structures along the length of the 1.5 mile project.  We designed the roadway sections, turnouts, and sidewalks.  All specifications for the project were written in-house by Huval & Associates.

We performed the entire project without the assistance of a sub-consultant.  Although the project was developed for the City of Lafayette, the scope was to complete the entire design in accordance with the LADOTD standards and specifications.

Huval & Associates completed the  West Pont des Mouton Roadway Widening project with a minimal amount of change orders.
