Huval & Associates (HUVAL) was contracted with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LADOTD) to inventory over 44,000 bridge spans of the state's approximate 74,000.  The state is inventorying its bridges to use Pontis, a bridge rating and maintenance software.

To help with the enormous task of inventorying 44,000 spans, HUVAL subcontracted Collins Engineers, Inc. (CEI), headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, who has previous experience in bridge inventory and inspection.  HUVAL is working with CEI representatives from their Charleston, South Carolina office.

CEI had 2 man crews working in 2 week shifts in Louisiana, and HUVAL had a 2 man crew working continuously.   Below is a map of Louisiana that shows the districts and parishes that each are responsible for and which have been completed.  Also below are completion charts showing how many spans and bridges have been inventoried, and how many are left, in each parish.

Upon completion of the inventory and Pontis setup, HUVAL and CEI had inventoried a total of 45,156 spans.  Although the total number of spans inventoried exceeded the original amount contracted, HUVAL and CEI performed the extra work while still completing on time and under budget.
